Well, I was introduced to sex ed in the 4th grade which I found highly disturbing. The instructor made condoms available, demonstrated how one puts it on with the aid of a banana, and showed us diagrams of sexual positions. Oh, and she occasionally talked about STD's.

Well, I think it is VERY beneficial to teach sex ed in elementary, though there are a couple disadvantages due it. From my experience, (I am a freshman in high shcool), I know that some of the kids were disturbed by it. A lot of parents complained, because they had no given their children "the talk" yet, so they were upset that sex had been introduced by someone other than them. I guess they wanted to break it to their children through their perspective and with their own morals.
Also, I think it kind of sparked more interest in some us. We were curious to know AND see more about this "sex" thing.
But overall, I think the advantages definitely outweigh the disadvantages.

waht are the disadvantages/advantages of teaching sex education in primary school> Well, if it is age appropriate, then there are many advantages. If parents are involved in taking responsibility for the content, even better. younger kids can learn about procreation in animal and plant systems and then work theri way up. Just becasue they imitate language and behavior they have heard and seen doesn't mean they understand it. What about the responsibilities of abstinance and morality? What about STD's? Ignorance destroys lives.

Depending upon your job - where you work and what your school board's policy is about this complicated subject. School's have just not quite accepted their role or responsibility in teaching sex education. We see hundreds of young women barely making it through school due to pregancies that 'just happened'. If parents are not teaching their children ALL THEY NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SEX, etc. these kids are going to learn it from somewhere - and the 'somewhere' is probably not the good information that parents want - but they are too fearful to speak up and make things right. I know of some people who lost their jobs and their right to teach. Ask first.

I believe that it's nessary, but has draw backs
it's hard for all children to cope and understand
the meaning.
The parents is the big problem on coping with the need to start at a early age,and cause problems.
even after the teach showes the learning aids.
With early teen the more they learn, parentrs are more aginest it
I believe a good education in a progresive school
even with disadvantages is worth wile,
I wish you the best of every thing you excell to
be.

Children should be taught age appropriate lessons about sex throughout their lives, not a sudden indoctrination in their early teens.
We adults are so uptight about anything sexual that we have left our children to their own accord to explore sexuality, often resulting in teen pregnancy and STDs.
Young children asking "where do babies come from" should be answered along the line of,"the love of their mom and dad is so great that they are blessed with someone to share it with."
Lessons would move on to physiology, mechanics, avoiding predators, unwanted pregnancy, STDs, and sexual responsibility, all need to be age appropriate. A 10 year old has no need to know about oral sex or how to orgasm..
When I was a kid, we were taught in the same manner as the first responder, it was a poor excuse for sex ed. My children were brought up much differently and were very secure in their sexuality at all ages of their lives..
