There seem to be so many labels attached to different stereotypes these days: Punk, goth, emo, prep, straightedge, ect. What's more is that there seem to be tons of kids attaching themselves to these labels with great effort (style of dress, hairstyle, ect), and yet they claim to loath the labels themselves...What is your opinion on labels and stereotypes in general?

In general, I think the kids/people who seem to go out of their ways to 'belong' to a specific group are just very desperate to fit in. They profess their hate for labels because they want to come across as such non-conformists, each playing the role of such a unique individual that they actually believe they are without equal in the world.

I think that it is just a way for kids to make themselves believe that they are better than others or that people are weird or even different, but it could be a good thing. I, personally don't like labels, but sometimes I even label people. They turn into my best friends, so labels don't matter.

Labels are often based on exterior behavior or body (shape of head etc) appearances.. What really counts is the interior characteristics, such as kindness, honesty, reserving opinions, etc

yeah. i hate it when people dress to fit a stereotype, then when people tell them they are that stereotype, they get all "no i'm not". i don't know, i don't like it when people only do something to look "cool". people care way too much about what other people think of them, in my opinion.
