we're not allowed to use it for legal costs because we're under suspicion!

Does anyone think he knows what he says.
Does he think he can really use the money donated to find Maddie, to defend himself and his wife when the police are pressurising them into confessing. Oh the brazen cheek of the man, he is so arrogant.
He revealed that they are thinking of flying in a crack legal team from the UK to assist their Portuguese advisor. And just who is going to be paying for that, as he said before they are running out of funds to stay in Portugal any longer??

I don't understand why they would need a legal team at all if they have nothing to hide, the whole thing stinks.
Their reaction to losing Maddie just seems totally wrong, more like a cleverly orchestrated publicity stunt than 2 distraught loving parents.
Launching a glossy web site (that appears more geared to raising cash than finding Maddie), and the walks along the beach carrying the soft toy for the cameras..... very odd.
I thought it most odd that they would go flying off around the world in the private jet instead of remaining in the area where she went missing..... and where were the twins during this time? Having just lost Maddie, you'd think they would not let the other children out of their sight for a second.
They now seem far too eager to get away from the place since the focus has turned on them.
I've got a fiver on it that they have a book released in the next 6 months.

They're back in UK now where people who leave their children un -attended are not thought of very highly. Social Services are sometimes involved and they will get no peace until Maddie is found. If the worst happens then they can use some of the money for her funeral , if she comes home safe and well like we all hope perhaps they can donate it all to help finding other missing children in the world like Yeremy Vardas who went missing from Gran Canaria about the same time or Ben Needham who went missing from his holiday years ago -Ben's mum had no spare money so couldn't get any help

I examine that earlier immediately. Quote from Gerry; "it form of sounds like a catastrophe that we've this great donated fund and now we are actually not allowed to apply it for criminal costs via fact we are under suspicion," pronounced Gerry. "I under no circumstances fairly imagined we could be in this occasion. Why does it now appear like a catastrophe that he's not allowed to spend the fund? The fund improve into set as much as hit upon Madeleine, to no longer pay for Gerrys criminal costs. Makes me ask your self what the actual rationalization for the fund improve into. as much as now as i'm able to make certain not one of the money has ever been used to help locate Madeleine. sounds like Gerry has being conserving onto the fund money until eventually he desires to apply it to save his very own dermis.

That fund is to find madeleine, not pay for legal fees. What a loser this man truely is, words fail me after reading this. I could care less who pays for his fee's as long as it doens't come from that fund.

Taken from the Times online:

There was also speculation that Kate could face charges within a few days. Despite the threat of an impending prosecution, the McCanns are now anxious to return home, but a court could put restrictions on their movements.

“In a system that you don’t know and don’t really trust it’s incredibly frightening,” Gerry McCann says in a newspaper today. “We thought we were in our worst nightmare but now it just keeps getting worse and worse.

“Our lawyer said the weight of it is that, under the Portuguese legal system, they’ve got enough to move forward against us. We never had to say it until now . . . but we did not kill our daughter,” he told the News of the World.

The couple are considering bringing lawyers from the UK to assist their Portuguese adviser, though they are frustrated that they will not be allowed to use any of the £800,000 in the Madeleine Fund to pay their legal bills.

“It seems like a disaster that we’ve got this huge donated fund and now we’re not allowed to use it for legal costs because we’re under suspicion,” he said.

They were going to use the money to 'sue for libel' when the Tal e Qual newspaper suggested the police believed they had accidentally killed Maddie - I guess they won't be suing now, huh? What an atrocious misuse of funds. What happened to the 'private detective' they were going to employ to look for Maddie, given their doubts about the Portugese police operation. That never materialised. Wonder why.....

I thought one of the problems about the fund in the first place was that it was a limited company, not a charity. Doesn't that mean they are allowed to use it as they want? What will happen to the money if they are now charged? Will people sue them for false pretences?

Yes, I read this very same statement he made. I was a little suprised he would think they could use it to pay legal costs. I thought their Portugeuse lawyer was pro-bono. And I also read about the crack legal team they might fly in. Is their house up for sale yet.

Edit: Yeah, but he's helping them for free...at least that's what I heard. I could be wrong.

Nick the portuguese lawyer is not pro bono, on the contrary, he is a top portuguese lawyer.

whit - her f*cking father isn't worried about her is he? He's just p*ssed off that he can't spend the money given by the public to try to help find her to save his own a*se from jail. If he was a DECENT father he would not EVER dream of touching money that might be better used to find his daughter (or does he already know that she will never be found - alive?)
