B
We know 2x and y are each less than zero and that |2x| > |y|
Let 2x = - 6 and y = -3
a. -2x = |2x| = 6
b. -(2x+y) = -2x - y = |2x| + |y| = 9
c. 2x = -6
d. 0
e. -y = |y| = 3

A

if 2x<0, then x has to be negative, since 2 times a positive would be greater than 0. That means that in answer A, -2x = -2 times a negative number) which has to be a positive number. All the other answers are either 0 or negative except E, but since 2x-y

Let's say that y= -1 and x= -2
(check it in the original equation (2*-2)<-1<0 )

(-2*-2) = 4
-[(2*-2) + -1] ---> -(-5) = 5
2*-2 = -4
0 = 0
-(-1) = 1

The greatest is B -(2x+y)
You can check this by picking any number for x and y that fit the original equation and subbing them in.

-2x

say that x=-5
-5 X 2 = -10
-10
so if you do -2x
-5 X -2 = 10
it will be positive 10, which is more than 0, and is the greatest.

B. -(2x+y). x and y are both negative numbers so combining them will give you the least number, but since your getting a negative of a negative number, it all comes out positive.
