Sounds reasonable to me. But hoo boy, are you going to hear objections from some people. I wonder if those who argue against "interfering with God's plan" have ever witnessed someone die from-for example-esophageal cancer? So it will be interesting to read what others have to share, and thanks for a thoughtful question.

That would be euthenization, and nobody can be stopped from commiting suicide. What are we going to do? Jail them when their done? Give them the death sentence?

The big conflict is over whether or not we should assist them in doing this, or in whether or not we should do this when the ill person is unable to tell us what they want.

I'm just all around unsure about the entire conflict. I think... that people should be in charge of their own lives, and therefore, their deaths if they so choose. But... helping them with it is a little much to bring to the table.

ive never been close to someone that suffered that much so im not sure how i would really feel about it but i think that its a sad thing but if its someones wish then i wouldnt try and stop them. I just dont see how suicide is any more dignifying than a terminal illness

The person should be allowed to choose. Their wishes are paramount.
If it is someone you love it is so hard. There is no dignity in death; but so much dignity in the way some people approach it.

If someone wants to die they should be allowed to. If I was going to die of a horrible disease I would want to choose how when and where I would spend my last minutes on earth. People get to a certain point of illness where they are in pain and are not acting normal. I guess it is up to the person but if it was me I wouldnt want to spend the last few months of my life drugged up and not enjoying what was left.

Ultimately, I believe there is no dignity in death. With respect to those who will say that euthanasia should be allowed... I am against it. My reasons are selfish. I would want to spend more time with the person, before they pass on.

I'm for suicide under the description you gave, I feel a person has the right to do with their body and soul as they wish. Nobody has the right to force their wishes on another soul!! Being a parent is tough just for this reason. Hospice worked for my mother.

I honestly don't see anything dignified about that. There was a time when we did not have the drugs for pain, and medical
treatments that are available now, so a person would lose his or her dignity in the extremis of suffering. But now, dignity is available.So?........

People can die with dignity without euthenasia.People do every day.To commit suicide by a person,s own hand is more understandable than asking someone to kill another person because it is their wish.It is morally wrong that is why Dr. Kevorkian went to jail for it.It is also wrong morally for a person to ask and expect someone to take their life because they cannot tolerate the pain ect. anymore, instead of doing it themselves before they are incapable of it.

I agree with it whole heartedly. I have watched people suffer and die in ways too horrible to describe. And begging for release.
But it is a frightening concept when you add in the other people that may be making that decision for you without haveing your best interest at heart.
