I basically decided with my son, that that was his. I didn't feel I had a right to decide to remove it. And I also had a guy friend in high school who was quite proud of his foreskin, which influenced my decision.

My sons are circumcised.

It's not 'en vogue' right now, but it's not just a cosmetic practice.

We chose circumcision because of family medical history with problems related to the foreskin. There can be issues with constriction, which is painful enough, and the resulting infections that come with it.

There is now also conclusive research that has proven that AIDS and STD rates drop dramatically in circumcised males. This is not why we chose this route, but it is very compelling evidence. These are not myths. It's ignorant to say so (poster above).

It's not just about 'looking like daddy'.

All the reasons given for circumcision such as hygiene, disease prevention, etc, are just myths. To permanently alter a boy's genitals because YOU think it looks cuter is seriously sick! Morally it's not your choice to make for another person. And many of us think that a butchered penis is not "cute" at all.

The cleanliness thing is garbage. 85% of the men in the world have foreskins, and nearly all of them manage to keep clean with nothing more complicated than soap and water. And if you think your son is going to go to Africa and have unprotected sex with HIV-positive prostitutes, you should educate him, not mutilate him.

It's his penis -- let him choose whne he's grown up whether HE thinks it's cuter. If as an adult he decides that the five seconds every days in the shower to pull back his foreskin is too big a burden, he can get it cut off then. He can't get it glued back on if you make the decision for him.

I agree that it is wrong when a parent gets their son done at birth. What right do they have to affect the sons future for weak reasons like " too look like dad", "it looks better" and the biggest lie of all " its cleaner".
I'm intact and proud, I have never had a problem with my foreskin or had any girl say she wouldn't give me oral sex because i was uncut. My son was left just the way he was born as well.
If a man chooses to be cut as an adult then that is his choice but it should be illegal to have it done as a baby, just like it now is in some countries

I decided not to circumcise my son because 1. I didn't want to put him through unnecessary pain and 2. I talked to me brother and he said that he wished he hadn't been circumcised for his own reasons. I thought that if he wanted to be circumcised when he was older, I would support that, but I was not going to force a surgery on him.

My husband isn't circumcised and he HATES tha he isn't. When our son was born 2 mos ago, I left the decision up to him as he is a man. My son was circumcised. I personally think it is just out and out cleaner. I know the AAP says that there are only a handful of benefits to circumcision but yeast grows in warm, moist environments and foreskin is a prime place for that, plus it does make you more susceptible to other bacterias such as Trich, chlamydia, etc. And just general bacteria from a man not being hygenic can cause an gardnerella in a female. Face it, it's hot in your undies. Admit it, you sweat in your netherregions as a guy,( remember that old saying, "It's hotter than a jogger's nut sack" ? That one always grossed me out ) and it is gross to me to think about all that sweat "pooling" under your foreskin. Sorry, I just threw up a little in my mouth from the thought. To be honest, I wish my husband would get circumcised even tho he is crazy clean, it still looks like his winky is wearing a turtleneck.

**** This is for the guy above. I love my husband to death, but I won't give him oral unless he has just showered for reasons related to circumcision. Most females I know would feel the same if asked.

I agree completely, it is disgusting that people still perform the procedure on babies without their consent for no good reasons, especially as it can have risks and has been shown that it is possible to lose sensitivity. I can't believe parents think it is their choice - it is not their penis and they will not be living with it.

Luckily the practice is dropping, outside of those religions anyway, although it's still going in the US because people just don't understand simple science.

All these hygiene and disease arguments - it's bull - if a guy is too lazy to take 5 secs to wash and 5 secs to roll on a condom them he will be dirty and diseased, circumcised or not! Duh.

Sexual functions of the foreskin were not identified until 2002. Prior to 2002, males were circumcised because
it was traditional to do it.

circumcision has nothing to do with sexuallity. However, being a female if I were to have ever had a son I don't feel it would be my decision to make to have it done.

i did it for my son because I didnt want him to have to worry about getting infections. did you know that the stats for a male un-circumsized getting infections down there are much higher than if they were circumsized at birth? Plus, if you ahve it done when they are babies, they will never know the difference. if you do it when you are older tho, they notice the pain more and you can't do anything till it heals....i think that would suck
