Simple soap and water will usually do the job. If the prints are really greasy go down to the hardware store and get some "Goof Off" it removes over spray, paint on door knobs and heavy grease, but be sure and read the label before using. It really depends on what substances are on the wall.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser is very effective.

magic eraser. but if the walls are painted in a washable paint a damp rag and a little spray cleaner, i like "awesome" should take the smudges right off.
