Don't worry, physics world is full of people like you. Not to make fun of you, I really think it's the case. It's normal to be socially challenged if you're a physicist. I'm not super shy, but somewhat soft-spoken. Getting into technical college and away from crazy high school with its bullies and such was a great relief.

I didn't get any other degree than physics, so I don't know how hard it is in comparison. BS and MS wasn't hard, but Ph.D. is hard. Sad part is, you have to get a Ph.D. in physics if you want to do physics for living. Masters or BS doesn't get you very far.

You will find a lab partner without a problem. It will be the person who happens to be sitting right next to you in the first lab. Even if you don't find a lab partner, you'll do fine, you actually don't need one. Each student writes his/her own lab report anyway. At the school where I teach and at the (different) school where I did my undergrad all the lab components were on the tables already, you don't need to go get any.

1) Then someone will be assigned to you. Or you can try talking to someone - you're going to college, you can remake yourself. Don't worry, a lot of physics majors feel awkward at first. You'll get over it.

2) Yeah, it's probably one of the most demanding. A lot of math and a lot of side work. Try to spend your summers doing research, it looks good on grad school applications. Good luck!

If you are good on math and science and you plan to go further than just a BS in Physics, I would say push ahead but if you lack on these basic requirements, you might as well look towards another field that would help you in improving your social skills.

Good luck
