all the deaths, wars, and misery in the name of an invisible man in the sky that doesnt exist. Why do we cling to such fairy tales?

The theory of evolution makes sense to those who are educated. there is no alternative explanation as to how life came about...only in america is this even debated

Doc:

you need to read the book "The Evolving God"

religion is a byproduct of the human mind. It comes from our ability as a species to reason and be aware of things like death. out of this we've created a fantasy of gods and ghosts in order to explain things that our intellectual mind cannot figure out.

you are still the dumbest poster on Yahoo. Must be an honor for you. I'm all for driving christianity out of the country as well as Islam and any other religion that commands it's followers to convert everyone

Sorry, millions of followers is not a valid reason for me believing in somethign that is counter to human reason and human intellegence. Religion is intellectual and cognitive suicide. it requires you to murder your own common sense and reason to believe it's tall tales.

Lack of democracy in full . To start the idea of an unelected nonexistant creator interferring in lives does not sit well. Electing some being that does not exist may seem like nonsense but many on Earth claim to speak for these beings. If the beings were to face elections like politicians this would make religion more flexible and these beings would have to explain themselves and through them religion. It would be better to dispense with religion alltogether but this approach is a step in that direction. If a fairy tale a vote would count the same as a prayer and would not have to go through an official. Last turn at least one religion into a holiday like Christmas . Ballot box for what wished of God or others running against God in every home or voting place. The only difference money provided under understanding God like Santa Claus only distrubutes more and not just to families but world. World Gift Giving Holiday. Merchandise in stores with face of God . God to remain mysterious figure around world who pays medical bills and the like though with understanding people are doing so with money provided to them to supply others while claiming God like Santa Claus is providing these much needed gifts

People have been fighting each other since they first began to walk upright! It had nothing to do with religion! People have always worshiped some type of gods, for some, many at a time. The American Indians worshiped the Great Spirit along with other gods of nature; but, they didn't kill because of them! The Nazi's killed to do away with religion, mass murder & not in the name of religion. I am religious, I believe in God the Father creator of Heaven & earth. Yes, some people have used faith to do Godless things to each other, but not all have done so. It is possible to believe in God & evolution, I do & see nothing wrong with believing that God took a bit longer than 7 days to create things; He is all powerful. In all of America's history, we have not fought in the name of religion. We have fought in self-defense. Today, in Iraq, we have broken that rule, shame on us! To say that you do not believe in God is fine with me, you will have to answer for it, not I. When millions of people around the world do believe, it's hard to see how you can so easily dismiss us as fools, when you don't have any more proof than your assumptions!

Religion is but an excuse for such, though religion does not excuse such. Some people twist religion - almost completely around - to suit special needs. For example, there are suicide bombers who die in the name of Allah, but the Quran says something about condeming martyring to kill others. And about Jihads, there are multiple interpretations to a jihad, such as the morality of self, and the interpretation on war is that of defense, not offense.

Because there are people who feel safer to believe that someone omnipotent created everything they can see, and is controlling the way people treat one another.

For some, it's easier than looking at things and saying; "Gee, I wonder why so many people are killing each other? Is there any way I can help?"

For others, it's because the theroy of Evolution doesn't make sense and they want an alternative solution.

Because you are the all powerful creator. So much for "Love Thy God" and Love Thy Neighbor..." It's such a poison. I guess you believe in luck and accidents. Were you an accident? I believe not.

Who says religion is a fairy tale? If this is your belief, that's fine. But when I am outside and see the wonders of nature, it is impossible not to believe in a higher being!

Yes.
But Democrats are going to drive Christianity out of the country.
Vote the Muslim Obama as President.
And invite bin Laden and his followers to come and live in love, in our country.

Because parents have been indoctrinating their children generation after generation for centuries. When you get something burnt into your head constantly throughout the formative years of your childhood, it's in there, you're cooked. You can't even ask the intelligent questions like "where is the proof"? You get all grown up, you marry, you have kids, and you proceed to indoctrinate THEM.

Thankfully, though, some of us managed to escape the conditioning.
