Terrorism is a tactic.
In fact, terrorism is utilized and is more effective, the more assymetrical the military capabilities are. The war on Terror would never end until US foreign policies are changed to respect the sovereignity of other countries.
Reps keeps harping about closing the borders and keeping the foreigners out. But, what about keeping US troops and influence out from other countries. Its 19th century colonialism all over again, except instead of british expeditionary forces in navy ships, its influence through economic incentives and sanctions and UN security council resolutions for countries who do not share the U.S "vision" of the world.
The War on Terror wouldnt end if US presidents keep "surging" more troops into various regions in the world, that policy is exactly what the "militants" are fighting against.
In fact, in Osama bin Laden's new tape, analysts have claimed that the tape had less religious rhetoric, and was more politically motivated.
He referred anyone questioning his motivation to a book written by an American ex-CIA operative (the name escapes me) explaining that the real reason behind the War against the U.S is the U.S's perceived influence in the Middle East and specifically the presence of US forces in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait. The reason the U.S administration plays down this message is because they dont want the American public asking the question, "What business does the U.S government have in the Middle East apart from a quest for resources?". Instead, the US administration would rather the American public think that they were attacked because the terrorists hate freedom, cold beer, girls in bikinis and the good ole American image.

yes it can. The terror to which we are dealing is organized and funded. The reason we must fight it is because in the mind set of the civilized nations these are not armies. To those in the Mid-East they are armies that they can deny. In a way the terrorists as we define them are political mercenaries that can be denied.
It puts us in a very precarious spot. On the one hand we can not just invade a country and fight to a defeat of the enemy. On the other hand we can not ignore the enemy or our citizens will die here at home. You can not read minds and we will not stop immigration or student visas.
Our enemy is the product not of any home grown source, yet, but of Islam as it is interpreted today.

To ask or perhaps answer Mitchell above. You cannot create an environment where they will not attack you. They kill their own. If that were true why are so many Islamic countries the targets of terror attacks. They goal is world domination by fanatic Islamist. Christian, Jew or Moslem, it will be a killing environment until the last Jihadist is no more.

Hunger never ends either. I eat, and then a few hours later, there it is again. Should I stop eating? Back in the '70's my father got nails in his tires for selling a house to a black family. How long did it take for blacks to get where they are today? ....too long and not far enough you say? 30 years later there are still some throwbacks. Should we put back the "whites only" drinking fountains because some people still use the "N" word? ....maybe some day it will be as un-PC to say "Death to America" and blow yourself up as it is to burn a cross. Have some patience and do what it takes. We're just getting started on this one. Sorry some people don't like that.

I say Mitchell is right. Lets give them all big hugs and anything they want. Let's line up our children and offer their throats to the knife that will sever their heads. Yes, this is a grand idea.
Dr. Spock got us to quit spanking our kids so I am sure Mitch is right on this one. If you don't believe me, try letting your kids do whatever they want. You'll be so free from worry and pain and hassle from them, you wont believe it. Your kids will honor you and love you for this.
Yep, gotta hand it to Mitch on this one.
