Have someone make sure the power steering belt is tight enough before jumping to conclusions.

Was there any loud noises associated with the loss of power steering? If so, check the belt. It may be loose or missing. If not, youre PS pump may have bought the farm. A new one installed will cost around 250 bucks.

Could be your power steering pump went out and they are not cheap call around to parts stores and ask for the cost.

three things (after fluid filled) if problem still occurs. in this order...pump, hose (collapsed internally which is fairly common with GM) or rack & pinion binding. none are cheap.
