Unfortunately when these things happen it interrupts our plans. It is a necessary part of politics.Your sisters school should have been aware of APEC for some time now and rescheduled their trip,Sydney has been preparing for this now for many months and its been in the news for ages.Sorry that your sister is missing out on seeing some of Sydney's great sights but you can not blame APEC,the school should have changed their plans.
Whether we agree with APEC or not ,we all knew when it was being held and should have adjusted our plans accordingly.

It is true that APEC has been much more disruptive than anyone could have anticipated.
Even eight weeks ago, for instance, I doubt people really thought there would be a two metre high steel fence around much of the city centre, or police stopping people and refusing them entry to some of the city's busiest tourist attractions.
However, the school should really have made enquiries. They could have reviewed their plans and seen some of the other less well known sights, for example, that way your sister and her classmates would have seen something, at least.
Hopefully your family can come to Sydney in the future after APEC has finished and enjoy a lovely family holiday.
Best wishes :-)

Like it or not and regardless of your political beliefs APEC dates have actually been in place for over 12 months. Poor organisation by your sisters school and actually potentially dangerous. Very poor Risk Management by the school and to be frank just doesn't make sense. Sorry but your parents should not have even let your sister attend the school trip at such a ridiculous time. Really need to look at a new school for your sister because they are really not on the ball!!!

You need to lay the blame on your sister's school and the organisers of her trip. No school in their right mind would schedule a trip including Sydney sightseeing during a conference of world leaders when large scale demonstrations and heavy security are expected..
The event dates have been public knowledge for months.
Whether APEC is liked or not - you really can't blame it for this one, sorry.

It was a total waste of time and money. If they had to have a meeting of 21 leaders, they should not have held it in Sydney, disrupting Australia's largest and busiest city and spoiling the holiday for thousands of tourists. If they had held it in Canberra, no-one would have noticed.
In any case if it is so unsafe for these people to meet that we had to go to such extraordinry lengths with security, then why don't they all stay at home and use modern technology for video conferencing - or use old technology and the telephone?

I actually saw an APEC. It was small, and quite polite. Not much fur. Surrounded by some rather nasty other critters.
