Oh, I see - you are still under the sad illusion that the US is governed for the benefit of the average citizen.
It is not. War is very profitable for big business and government in the US.
And people who are in power do not desire to lose their profits for any reason, so why should people in power care about people who "don't matter" to them?
Yes, the US is war-obsessed. The US' birth lies in the roots of armed confrontation. Why should this surprise you?

It's all about money, and America's foundation is that of being a money making society. Not only is there big money in the war on drugs (I heard recently on the news around $13B), the drug dealers don't want to stop making money either. Alcohol consumption has been a part of American history, too. Taxing legal alcohol makes money for everyone involved and keeps Americans happy, supposedly. Lots of people fought hard on both sides of this legality issue. For whatever reason (probably money), that debate was decided a long time ago, and we are stuck with this arrangement until we change it. Even tho there is evidence to the contrary, lots of people think that if it's legal it's not dangerous. Also, society condones drinking, so we are stuck with the consequences.

The Revolutionary war and civil wars were waay different than the others mentioned. Both were fights over civil liberties for our own country.
What about world war 1 and 2.... those involved alot more than just the US. Vietnam was supposed to be over a few months... had anyone known what was actually going to happen it would never of occurred.
I dont like bush either and think its silly to be in iraq but even if we left and minded our own businesses there would still be suicide bombings and such occuring daily over there.
Anyways I could ramble on forever... but I think a better question is "why do men (of all countries) with lots of power feel the need to use it for things such as war so often?"
P.S. The cold war didnt involve fighting, the US and Russia just kinda smack talked each other alot.

LMAO! Sorry young lady, the world is a cruel place. Nice thought though. Here is a thought for the electric car fans. What do we do with all the toxic batteries when they wear out? Also.. the war is not about gasoline. It's not that simple.
Visualize Whirled Peas.
The whole world is war obsessed. Read a history book.

When has there ever been world peace?
It's a noble desire, to be a solicitor of peace, but often times it is those that deny the reality of mans' nature that leads to unnecessary suffering and death.
War is inseparable from humanity.
This is sad, and I wish like hell it wasn't true, but it is an unfortunate fact.

You missed about 50 other police actions and wars. Rich and influencial men make decisions about whether or not to have a war. To think that these are all vital to the security of the U.S. is ridiculous. To assume that some of these men don't have a hidden agenda is naive.
Yes, the U.S. is war obsessed. It's big bussiness and very profitable.

Yeah I do think people should switch to electric cars but the dealers would jack up the prices if everyone started buying them. So really no one would buy them... And no, America is not war obsessed. Bush ain't Satan he's just stupid. A crime we're all guilty of sometimes. He's just really good at it...

Wars happen,, and the revolution? what was that ? Spanish war? I dunno, the Civil war was over slavery, or should we still have them.? Do a little research and try not to just watch CNN or listen to your LIberal Daddy. The movie Independence Day,,,,,,,,,, peace, No peace.

When they stand to gain from it, yes. You left out a lot of wars. Also, the U.S. isn't the only one that behaves this way, most greedy countries do this.
What's even worse I suppose is that their is no shortage of countries which feed upon themselves in this way . . . since they cant attack other countries, they attack their own.
That's just the way people behave.
