It was used as a basis for James joyce's Ulysses. It is referenced in O Brother Where Art thou. Many modern fiction novels have taken up the story, one even saying that Odysseus never died and still lives in modern times. And of course, any story like Cold Mountain, which involves a long trek home to a loved one has obvious associations with the myth.
