Like Gold it is a very stable metal when exposed to oxygen. It does not oxidize readily.
Two it is moderately hard wearing.
Three it has an expensive extraction/purification
process making it commercially expensive.

It is an inert metal, it doesn't corrode. It is also very expensive so this makes it even more attractive to vain people.

because it is an inert metal, it wont cause skin irritation and is quite a rare element.
