Try connecting an external monitor to the VGA port. Cycle the keys (Function key plus F7 or key w/ monitor icon) to activate the external monitor. If both monitor and laptop LCD turn on, there is no problem w/ your laptop.
If external monitor turns on, laptops LCD screen has a problem. If external monitor does NOT turn on, onboard graphics or the motherboard has a problem. It is time for a visit to the service center.

Did you happen to press the external monitor fuction key accidently? That would change the video out to the video out port on the laptop instead of to the monitor. What you say though sounds like you have either a graphic card issue or monitor issue, you'll most likely have to go have it serviced.

sounds like a problem with the monitor. Get it looked at by a computer specialist. Might just be a loose connection coz i had the same prob with an ibm thinkpad
