Always use lubrication; that way you won't chafe the skin when working deep tissues.
We find that a light sunflower oil with just a touch of scent (rose) works nicely.

All of the above
Warm hands is always a must,
if I'm getting a massage from a professional
( I have a friend) I prefer body oils.
Now the best, most special massage given by someone who cares about you, I really love lotion

Warm hands, and perhaps with warm oils. A colder medium such as lotion is equally enjoyed at times.

Personally - water based moisteriser - with added vanila fragrance - warm hands for a brushing light massage with johnson's baby powder - it is nice to give and receive a massage once in awhile.

Scented oils are nice. Warm, soft hands are a given.
