HMS Ulysses by Alistair Maclean
Great story of the North Sea convoys. Weather so cold your bare skin would stick to metal and anyone in the water for more than 4 minutes had had it.

"The Boat" by Lothar-Guenther Buchheim , probably the best book ever on submarine warfare , made into a TV series and a film .
"H.M.S.Ulysses" by Alistair Maclean , about a convoy to Russia - excellent .
