When I go to see the computers on my workgroup, it gives me this error "(Workgroup name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. (Two blank lines) The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." Can anyone tells me what this means, practically, in laymen's terms?

This means your network is not setup correctly.

Be sure you didn't try to join a domain etc. Unless you are running a domain server.

The easiest fix is to run the network setup wizard and answer the questions to get your local machines to talking. All of them have to be within the same "workgroup" you can pick the name but that name has to be the same on all of them.
Since I don't know what Operating system you are running that is about all the help I can give you. Visita is more difficult than XP to get setup but the premise is the same.
You also need to set the firewalls to allow your local network.
