I just purchased this car and it seemed to run fine until roughly 20 miles after. The car had poor low end power and started to sound like it was pinging. It then died on me on the highway and I was lucky enough to start it up again. It again died by my house and I have not been able to get it started. It feels like it wants to kick over and I here a "puff" sound after I stop trying to start the car.

The car has a MSD ignition box, MSD Coil, MSD wires, and NGK plugs all installed about 18months ago.

I connect a computer to it and it is reading a PO300 code, which I could have figured as I knew it was misfiring, pinging, etc.
Do I replace the coil 1st or could it be the optispark, etc?

Sounds like a fuel supply problem.
Fuel pump or filter??

Spray some carb cleaner or something in the intake and try to start it again.
If it does nothing, then you know it's an ignition problem.

po300 is a generic (non-cyl specific) misfire. the optisparks do have a really bad reputation. being that they run near $350 when i checked for my 9c1 caprice i would pony up the cash to have a service professional diag it. better to pay the $75-100 to KNOW what it is rather than dumping hundreds into it guessing.
and sidenote i think the msd opti is slightly cheaper than the GM, and check the seal on the waterpump driveshaft for leaks and the water pump too!

Well you have to start some where , After that get the codes re read and see what next you might need to have the computer read for new codes, hope this helps.

check spark plugs, then wires, coil pack, and ignition box. cheapest first. sounds like you got a bad deal whatever you paid if it dies only 20 miles after you got it

change the fuel filter is is clogged .must be clean to have correct pressure to injectors,,yer timming is advanced or carbon build up has raised compression, try some premium gas and see if ping goes away,if it does retard a bit for lower octane gas
