1. "More than" means that you need to add, so:
x + 8
2. The "product" is the answer after you multiply, so
6y
3. "1/2" of a number is the same as "half" of a number, or, the number divided by 2, so
m/2
I hope this helps!

1. x+8
2. 6y
3. m/2
All it is is turning the expresion into a variable expression
I can relate because i just had this lesson and its actually 6th grade algebra
Variable: a letter or symbol that represents and unknown number. Later in this lesson you will relize its not hard.
The letter is the variable and it, in these problems are used just to show a problem to figure out as in these;
9 more than p P+9
which if u knew what p was it would be a number.
EX. 4+9
5 Fewer than d D-5
same here if you knew:
9-5
There are other ways that show the operation of the number as in, Less than, divided by, product of, etc.
In these problems they are only what you need to do to find the answer. In others you have to find them out.

You need to look at and understand every word - and then practice it over and over
1. 8 more than x is x + 8 take the time to understand what I did to answer this as this is very critical; no matter what x is x + 8 is always 8 more than x; understand how I came to this expression
2. the product of 6 and the number y - Product is the result of multiplication so you know that you are multiplying 6 by something; the something is y; this is expressed as 6y
3. 1/2 of a number m; Understand that "of" means multiply; 1/2 of something means multiply 1/2 times something. In this case the something is m so the answer is (1/2)m or m/2
Since you need to understand this material to succeed, please go over what I did and make sure you understand what I did; once you understand drill yourself over and over.

Ok, this is easy
8 more than a number x is x + 8
the product(multiplication) of 6 and a number y is 6 x y
1/2 of a number m is m x 1/2 or m/2

1) 8 + x. "more than" always means you add.
2) 6*y. Product means you multiply.
3) m/2. When it says half of, you always divide by 2.
Good luck.
