I had one in my bathroom sink last night and couldn't even use the toilet all night. It's eyes were out on stalks(and so were mine) AAHHHH! Even thinking about it makes me cringe. Then you know what's next? Those dangling daddy long legs. Are they getting to you as well?

The Happy Murcia. Actually when I got in my bed last night I tried to fall asleep with my mouth clamped shut, because I'd read that somewhere.

Right. No one on here is making me feel better at the moment. Especially calling them big fat juicers.

I'm terrified of spiders too - I've been known to spend many a night on the sofa because there was a spider in my bedroom. I would never, ever kill them though. And why do they ALWAYS come out at night, usually when you're padding around in your bare feet and ready to go to bed?!!

Anyway, my top tip would be to get a cat. We recently got one and instead of finding spiders all over the house, I just keep finding 'bits' of them instead (i.e. lots of leg remnants!). So my cat is obviously snacking on them, and doing me a big favour at the same time!

Depends on the size. Small spiders I scoop up with my hand and throw them over the balcony.I put a glass over BIG spiders, slide a piece of card between the glass and the wall and then I throw them over the balcony. I wouldn't be too sure about not having venomous spiders in the UK. Some might have hitched a lift on a Qantas flight. My oldest daughter was arachnophobic and I was to blame. When she was 8 years old we were on-sight in Sydney. I saw her poking in the wall round the swimming pool. She said she had seen a spider. I said, 'Leave it alone. Don't touch it.' After that she wouldn't go near any spider. OK, mea clap, but those Sydney red backs can be deadly for young children. When she was over 20 I visited her in the UK. The front garden was 'planted' with beer glasses. She has learnt my trick, but couldn't bring herself to remove the glass, in case the spider took it's revenge.

The nexius of the spider can become larger every year especailly as other species are introduced into our country. There was a case of philnimbus spiders who came over and mated with daddy longlegs. The result was staggering and expidestrious. A daddy long leg was reported as being 5 feet in diameter!

yep - they are definately bigger this year. I was soooo proud of myself the other day - I heard a huge scream from the girls toilets (which is next to the staffroom) and found the girls running out of the bathroom sreaming spider!! Trying my best to be all calm and P.C about God's creatures and all that I swiflty went to get a mug and piece of paper so could remove the awful thing. To my horror, it was sooo big I only just managed to put the mug over it, and half winced a false smile all the way out the door! How brave was I!!

In our house there are 2 seriously OTT arachnaphobes - me and our daughter! Tc isn't too keen on them either but he is Chief Squisher! Every night for the past 2 weeks we've had a spider stomping across the carpet and they all end up meeting the same fate.....hubby says "give me your slipper quick" and that's another one gone! We thought that spiders came into houses when the weather changed from dry to wet but they seem to be everywhere no matter the weather. Daddy longlegs? Eek! No thanks!

We have a huge field out the back and at a certain time of the day we have to shut all doors and windows or we have a house full of daddy long legs. ew.

Also, house spiders ARE getting huge! I threw a leaflet on one the other day so i could pick it up using the leaflet...the leaflet started moving across the floor!

We have a daddy long legs around somewhere. We threw a cushion to get it off the ceiling so I could escort it out, but its hiding somewhere. And there is a spider in the bath plug hole - he covers the whole plug hole, which is why Im here and not in the shower yet.

Spiders grow as the season progresses depending on the
availability of their prey. Daddy long legs (crane flies) are an
autumn bonanza for them.
