It changes in order to be able to blend in with it's environment. It makes it harder for predators to find it.

They change to blend in with the snow so vermin can't find them so easily.

All my black or gray rabbits will shed out to a lighter color in the winter months to blend in with the surroundings better.

they change color so they could blend in with there .because it would be harder to see a white rabbit in the snow then a brown one for tiger to catch right.
