Yeah, Elfen Lied is easily in my top 10 all time favorite anime. I had to go out and buy the box set this summer.
BTW, did anyone else find it hystarical when Mayu's puppy was taken away? I was feeling so bad for her that entire episode. Seeing her as a runaway eating only dogfood. Finding out she was abused by her step father. It kept getting more and more depressing. But when the dog's owner came out of nowhere, and takes her dog away, then says Mayu can't even visit- it just went too far. It crossed over the realm of sad and into comical.
Anyone else feel that way?

Its a very good manga, maybe a little ecchi for me, but it have the correct combination of drama, action and humor. Also the graphics are great. The anime (amazing) wins many prizes, like best female character on 2004. And the music... I love Lilium (The opening theme). Highly recommended.
