I used "groovy" in the 60s, "far out" in the 70s, and used "totally" a lot in the 80s. Presently, I keep saying "cool" (which has been around the block several times now).
My son says "Lovely" or "Sweet."

Haha, I am 17 so let me tell you what I say a lot:
Cool
Awesome (don't worry, you can still use awesome!)
Ill and sick (you say, "That's ill!" or, "That's sick!" to mean "That's cool!")
My friends say "neat," "sweet," and "hella cool."
When something bad happens, you say "Freakin' A!" or just the standard, "That sucks!"
I know this one is old but I still think it's cool...
Mint - it means cool because mint is cool and tingly. I think it's an 80's term, but I wasn't born then...

The first one was "rip." My uncle used to get so mad at me for saying that.
Then we went to "nasty break" and then to groovy. I always prefer the word "cool" above all overs. You are right. It has been around a lot. Another one was " S..t happens." My daughter says "sweet" a lot. I am remembering that funny movie where the two dumb guys would say, "sweet" and the other would say "dude" and then back and forth. It was printed on their t-shirts. Funny movie.
My girlfriend moved to California in the late 50s and the word there was "bitchen."

I also used groovy. We didn't have sayings in the fifties that I used, maybe Dynamite, or Crazy Man.

I was raised in a very, very small town. Although we used words like 'no sh*t' quite often, and 'cool' or 'hey man' occasionally, we had our own home growed sayings, like: 'your as* is sucking slew water' or 'why daddy why' or other terms that I probably shouldn't add.

While in high school in the 60's, I used to say "sharp." That was my favorite saying, when it came to cars, guys, & clothing.

Mine were "far out", "cool", "groovy", and "awesome". I still catch myself saying "cool" and "aw some", my kids think that;s funny. My sons say "sweet" as well.
That was an awesome question man, thanks for the cool memories.
