How do you fix a hole in a door?

I got a hole in a door by slamming it too hard. I want to fix it, but don't want to buy a new door. How can I do this?

It sounds like a Hollow Core Door, but I suspect IT had to SLAM against something to develop a HOLE.

In any case if you have the desire to NOT replace it, you can "SKIN" it with Luan; cut a hole again for the door knob; repaint it, and probably will have to reset the hinges allowing for the added material

Buy a new door hollow core doors are cheap.
