I always felt self-conscious in shorts. I didn't like the boys staring at me. I don't know how to explain that. I preferred wearing what was called "pedal pushers." There was nothing wrong with my legs at all; in fact, I was told I had pretty legs. Just something about the shorts that made me uncomfortable.

I have a neighbor who is in her 80s and prances down the street in her shorts and floppy hat. She is a hoot. Wish I had her self confidence.

I don't wear them in public. But, it has nothing to do with vanity. The combination of 100+ daytime temps and low humidity can really dehydrate you in a hurry and cause you to reach "saute" temperature in a hurry. I've been here in the desert for 25 years and I chuckle at the "newbies" who try to stroll around in the summer wearing tank tops, shorts and shower shoes. It's not coastal California or the East Coast either. It's high desert and (pardon the sexism) Mother Nature has PMS here!

I wear summer shorts in public and feel less self concious now than when I was young because now I dress for me and don't care what other people think.

Rarely but if I had nice legs I would. I do wear knee length. Though I am average small I've been weird about my legs for eons. Here in Florida most people wear them regardless. Seeing some of those legs has me know I would rather keep mine under wraps. though have to admit a few minutes of sunshine daily does wonders.

Do or die!! Living here in the Northern California, Sacramento area, with our HOT summers, you have to. I am not concerned with the Fashion Police, I am out to stay as cool as I can. LIght top, shorts and flip-flops or sandals are my everyday wear. I am not out to impress anybody. I am not heavy nor too light. Just average. And if somebody doesn't like it just to D-- bad.

In my 50's and still wear shorts. i'm a walker so my legs are in decent shape. but I've been noticing skin changes that i don't like one bit. but i'm one to go for comfort; so if someone doesn't like it they don't have to look is the way i feel. My shorts are longer now though.
