You are responsible for what your child does. If you were with your child in a store and your child takes something from the shelf and drops it, you may be expected to pay for it. This seems perfectly reasonable. Often, the store will take the loss to keep you as a customer.
The other people may just take the loss and not expect you to repay them but you should make the offer.
If this were something expensive like a plasma TV set, their homeowners policy may cover all or part of the expense, in this case you should certainly cover any deductible.
You don't say what was broken or the circumstances but there could be a situation where the other parents allowed the children to be playing with something that it would not be prudent to let children play with because of a reasonable chance it would get broken. In that case, they may not have any legal recourse.

Reverse the situation. If a child broke something in your home wouldn't you want the child's parents to at least offer to pay? Right is right pay up.

There's not enough information here to determine if you would be held legally responsible for the damage, but as a matter of ethics, you should at least offer to pay.
Remember you are your child's role model. By modeling that one is responsible for one's actions, even if the damage is accidental, you are teaching an important lesson.

YES. You are sending your child the wrong message if you let them break something and dont make ammends. If it is something very expensive set up a payment plan with the person.

Ethically you should offer to pay for the item. Thius shows responsibility to the child and also peace of mind for you.

Was it an accident? Something that could have been easily broken in the ordinary course of kids playing that the person in charge should have been aware of? If so...legally...no. Sh** happens. If it is not expensive..pay for it and clear your conscience.
If this was a day care provider or babysitter, then hell no...(if it was an accident) This is normal "wear and tear" of the business the person was benefitting from.
