Simply divide 8 into 3.0, and add the answer to 5. Or, put 3/8 into your calculator and add 5.

5 3/8 = 5+3/8 = 5+.37500 = 5.37500

Alternatively

5 3/8 = 43/8 = 5.37500

Here is to solve:

Take 3/8 = 0.375

Then add 0.375 + 5 = 5.375

grab a calculator and punch in 3 divided by 8 and you will get .375 and you can round that off if you like and then you get 5.375 or 5.38 or 5.4

5 is a whole number 3/8 is a ratio take your calculator and divide 3 by 8 and you will get .375

so it's 5.375 1 / 8 = .125

0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 1

0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 0.375
