OK. I saw the movie... With all the animation, the child as the main character, and the mythological/ imaginary/ fantasy storyline, you'd think the movie was targeted towards an adolescent age-group.. But, then again, there's a lot of people getting shot, all bloody, and getting their faces smashed in... I believe it was rated R.

Who exactly is this movie for??? Part of the movie, I think only little kids would enjoy, but it was way too violent for little kids!!! It was OK, but I don't think I'll watch it again. The only part I really liked was the scene with the monster guy and the table full of food. I felt like I was watching "Fern Gully, Schindler's List, and Doom all combined into one film. What the...???

sidenote/// I am by no means trying to demean or praise any of the other movies I mentioned in comparrison... They were just that... a comparrison.

This is not a kids movie by any means. It's an adult fantasy, and I think it was made to show that the imagination can be rich and vibrant at any age. The violence is there in order to enhance the surreal nature of Ofelia's journey; the stark and bloody nature of the "real" world gives her something to escape from, a reason to want to run away into the world the Faun gives her the key to.

Its not for anyone younger than 12, anyone who despises gore or people who hates tragedy. Overall, next to the Prestige it was the best movie I saw last year. Anybody other than those three I listed can enjoy it.

I don't think it had a target audience other than film lovers. It was not meant ot be a children's movie.

Not every film needs to have a target audience. It was just a good movie that Del Toro felt he had to make.
