I want to go to the doctor but I think he's going to say I'm fine because my ankle looks fine but it hurts really bad!

are you serious???? go to the doctor already....get an x-ray. the RN is right, you probably have a hair-line fracture. I promise, the doc will not think you are stupid for coming in for that.

You really should see a doctor. Even if it is "only" sprained and not broken, you could make the injury worse by not treating it. It could even become a permanent problem.

No good doctor will simply look at it and say you are fine. If you are in pain, you are NOT fine. Pain is your body's way of telling you that things are NOT fine.

A good doctor will listen to you. He or she will ask you to describe the circumstance in which you hurt it, whether or not you have hurt it before, what you do that makes it hurt more or less, etc. - in other words get a detailed history of the injury.

He/she will then thoroughly examine the injury - attempt to put the ankle through range of motion exercises, watch you attempt to put weight on it, etc.

If he/she has any doubt as to the possibility of a fracture, he/she will order an x-ray of your ankle.

Regardless of the x-ray results, he/she will give you advice as to what you should do to help it heal and what pain medication to take, if any.

At the very least, you should rest your ankle; immobilize it with a supportive bandage such as a tensor bandage (but check it frequently in case your ankle starts to swell again and loosen the bandage if it does); apply cold to it to reduce any residual swelling and pain; and elevate the ankle whenever possible. This is part of the RICE treatment for joint injuries.

Take care of your ankle and if the doctor doesn't take you seriously - see another doctor.

Are you still holding ice on it a few times every day? You should be. It's not healed from the injury until a long time later. When they try to take your crutches, it's a good thing. If you become dependent, you are only damaging yourself.

I was in a wheelchair for a while, and had to move from walker to crutches to cane and then I was on my own. It was a little hard, but I got strength back and eventually became a personal trainer.

Don't ever give up. Keep at it, take care of it. Ice - ice - and rest - rest. Elevation is only for acute care, but sometimes raising it up, or elevating the rest of your body above it (for a minute) helps. Just do what you can to keep the blood moving.

I'm sure regardless of the rule, a doctors note will help you get your activities limited.

The best thing to do for a twisted or turned ankle is RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

Pain is a funny thing. For some reason, when something is WRONG with the body, it HURTS!! hmmmmmm. You dip!! go see a doc, you probably tore some ligaments and need to stay off that ankle for a few days. You may even need to do some rehab to help it heal.

You have to see a doctor to get an further testing such as a ct scan or mri done. You may have damage muscle or tendons etc. Though it looks okay on the outside doesn't mean there isn't something wrong.

Just go to the doctor. If it hurts, it hurts. It doesn't matter if it looks fine. That's why they do x-rays to see what is wrong beneath the skin.

I had this happen to me. I know it's quite painful. Put an Ace bandage on it, as tight as possible without discomfort. In time, it will heal itself. I hope you know what I mean by an Ace bandage. That's the really stretchy stuff that you have to secure by little clips. It will take time, but I promise it will heal.

i answered your previous question about this topic. after reading "RN's" response i had to comment. her comment about "doctors not being as stupid as you seem to be" was pretty mean. don't be afraid to go to the hospital, most of us who work in emergency rooms are very nice to children. she's probably "burned out" about her job and has no clue that you don't belittle kids like she just did. shame on her.

The doctor will take an x-ray. That will tell him for sure, if its fractured or not
