Do you mean people who were in the towers when they collapsed? If you do I think it was only those in stairwell B. There were a few people who were just outside the buildings when they were collapsed, and who were pulled out of the rubble, not sure how many exactly though.

I dont believe there was such a count made. Its only the stories of miraculous recovery that make the headlines isnt it?
Did U watch the TV docu on it all last night? It was an excellent portrayal of feelings of comeradary amongst those firefighters. I have NEVER disrespected them (in theUK) when they strike, and its due to documentaries as this that I feel strongly against anyone who would diss them for any strike action they take.
As it was proved in that documentary, many of them leave home on a daily basis not having a clue whether they will actually make it home that night, (how many of us do that??)and I think they deserve our utmost respect...
So next time you see a firefighter, shake their hand! Or give them a hug!

Sorry that I don't have the answer but I was wondering this myself... They tell us how many died but I want to know who survived, if any, after the collapse!

Sorry I can't answer your question - why was this not made more public? I will say though that I've always disagreed with the amount of people they say died. I really think it was much more than stated, Why, I don't know!
EDIT: PrettyWoman - Well said!!

I wouldn't think they would waste time counting survivors, as they are all alive, but would probably be willing to talk about their own experience at that time. It is the same with wars , they only seem to count the dead.

I assume you mean "out of those in the building before the aircraft struck" ?
If so, you should be able to look it up (DYOR = Do Your Own Research) = it's bound to be in one of the official reports somewhere .. otherwise I go with the "about 6 billion" answer
