512 MB is the standard amount of RAM in a personal computer. If you want to play full screen games on the computer, like The Sims 2, you'll want 1 GB of RAM, which is twice as much and makes your computer faster.

If you're thinking of storing music, one mp3 song is about 5 MB, depending on how long the song is, so 512 would store roughly 100 songs.

Well... If your talking about RAM, than yeah i guess thats a lot of space. If your talking about long term storage (usb stick, hard drive) that's pretty small.

512 MB = 512*2^20 = 536870912 bytes = 4294967296 bits, or consecutive 1s and 0s. Since you only need so much at one time, its a lot for RAM (what your looking at on the computer right now is in RAM) but over a period of time its not much (like storage for music or movies or games over a month or two adds up.)

I use 512 floppy all the time it is small but you can store a whole book on it and only a few pictures like maybe 5 or 6. depending on the size of the pics..so you could say it is the smallest of storage units.

If you are running XP or an earlier Microsoft Operating System, 512MB is usually enough memory for most computing tasks.

If are running Vista, you should have at least 1 GB

Do you mean RAM? There are different types of RAM; you probably have DDR or DDR2. 512MB isn't a huge amount, but it's plenty good enough to run Windows XP. For Windows Vista, 2GB is recommended (that's four times as much).

It depends what you use your computer for, but for normal use 512MB is probably enough.
