yeah...thats DEFINITELY not right. a crossdresser is a person who dresses in clothes of the opposite sex, like a man in a woman's clothing.

Many transvestites, (people who for whatever reason dress in the clothes of the opposite gender) do not like being called Transvestites because there is the false believe promoted by poor quality dictionaries that transvestites dress for a sexual purpose. So they call themselves crossdressers.
Some Transvestites do dress for sexual purposes, most do not. It would be obvious if a man dressed as a female was sexually excited.
If you look up 'crossdresser' in a dictionary, it is likely to define it as 'a transvestite,' so it does seem pointless calling themselves crossdresser to avoid being called a transvestite. But for some people 'crossdresser' is a clearer description of what they do.
The terms Transvestite, and Crossdresser only describes a small part of their cross gender activities.

A Cross Dresser is a person who dresses in thew attire of the opposite gender, ie, man who deresses in women's clothing. Men tend to do this more so than women. They are heterosexual men who wear women's clothing. They do not like the word transvestite so the term Cross Dresser was coined.
African-Americans use the term Cross Dresser as a menas to wearing 2 named brands of clothing.
A Transvestite is a person who wears the clothing of the opposite gender and who may or may not have transgender issues. That is to say, a desire to be the opposite sex.
A Transsexual is a person of either gender who identifies internally as that of the opposite gender. The diagnostic term is GID or Gender Identity Dysphoria (Disorder is also a term used but not so well liked by Trans People). It is more common with males than females or MTF/FTM. They go on to take hormones of the opposite sex - Testostorone / Oestrogen and thne after living for a period of 1 - 2 years as a member of the opposite sex, they can have sex realsignment surgery -taking of hormones, removal of body and facial hair, for transwomen, and gender reasignment surgery - reconstructing the genitals of transsexuals into that of a vagina or penis.

My brother in law was one. He dressed as a man by day, but He dressed up as a woman, wore wigs, girdle and stockings to cater to another group. Consequently my sister found out and divorced him! BTW he made an ugly woman! lol

I thought it was another name for a transvestite..? (a woman who dresses in mens clothes or a man who dresses in womens clothes)
