I have recently begun reading and enjoying all the different facets of Japanese anime--video and printed. I'm interested in purchasing a download version of some hentai, but I am uncertain if by doing so I am breaking any U.S. laws. What is the best source to determine if I am doing something that I shouldn't be doing when it comes to foreign adult material purchased and downloaded online?

It's much the same as for any other type of porn. Don't worry about it, you'll find plenty of hentai DVD's sold within the USA, and many others can be downloaded - nobody really checks up on this stuff unless it's specifically banned.

You should be fine with anything as long as it's not loli or shota- then it started getting into the gray areas of the law.
