This week we got packets for orders for the Class Rings. They are really expensive. Like nothing is under 300 bucks. My family isn't rich and money doesn't grow on trees. My mom asked my dad if he would pay for it and he said NO. He pays 200 bucks child support a month and thinks that he's giving me a lot. Oh yeah, like he's such a saint. I told my mom that I don't want her spending 500 bucks on something that i'm probably not going to use. NOW MY IPOD IS BUSTED. AHHHH. It's really messed up. I asked my mom if she could get me a new iPod (which is $150 compared to $500) and she said no. That's unfair. I actually use my Ipod. and i'm not making her waste her money on my class ring. this is a bit unfair isn't it. I mean i love my mom but still.

i'm not a spoiled brat. i don't ask for anything. the only reason i'm asking for a new ipod is because my old one is broken.

fyi were not dirt poor. we aren't even considered poor. we are just a bit tight for money but we live in one of the nicest neighborhoods imaginable. that's thanks to my mom. I know she's not bad but it's a bit unfair because i'm not allowed to get a job.

I feel your pain
300 bucks is a lot of money for something you yourself said you'd likely not use.
sorry about the ipod
take a deep breath
count your blessings
you live in a nice place, you probablly live better than 95% OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET. Relax, a bit, my friend/contact. Are you well-fed? healthy? safe? do people care about you? are you trusted/ are the people around you trustworthy?
it is so ok to vent...that's what I'm here for...
peace...and now I know how old you are...so I will be a bit more appropriate in my responses to your questions...B

Well, if you're looking at class rings, you're either a junior or a senior, right? I'm a single grandma raising one of my grandsons and I'll tell you, I wouldn't have the extra money for an ipod OR a class ring. That's what P/T jobs are for on evenings and weekends. SO, I'm sure you're mom would, if she could, but she can't... so go get a job!!!
BTW, I DO agree with the class ring thing- it's something you'll never wear after high school- a huge waste of money that only seems important to some kids at the time.

You shouldn't have busted your ipod. Is that something that is required for you to do your schoolwork? If not and you want a new one, earn the money yourself. You are a senior in high school and are not allowed to get a job? Sounds like an excuse for not wanting to get a job. You sound extremely selfish.
You can always order a class ring from somewhere else. Several people in my class did because they didn't like the design the class selected (yes we all has the same basic ring design). Theirs were less expensive.

Get a job! If you have a class ring catalog you're obviously old enough. I've been working since I was 15 and my parents never bought me anything. Be happy that your dad even pays child support because a lot of dads don't. You shouldn't expect your parents to buy anything for you and when you demand things like that and complain when you don't get everything your little heart desires, you sound like a spoiled brat. Wake up, sweetheart, an iPod is NOT a necessity.

It's not unfair. I get why your mom would want to sacrifice for your school ring; because it's supposed to be a nice little memento that you are supposed to treasure forever. I do understand why you don't want a class ring though. I didn't get my class ring either because I thought they were way to expensive and way to hideous for me to ever wear, not to mention high school was not an experienced I wanted to treasure forever. However, the IPod is not something you need. I don't have an IPod and believe it or not I've managed to get through life without one. Twenty years ago people didn't have IPods and they survived. IPods are ridiculously expensive and I understand why your mom isn't willing to put up the money for it. The class ring was different because it was supposed to be a memory, but an IPod is just an accesory that you can manage without. My suggestion is that if you really want an IPod save up for it yourself, save your allowance or whatever money you get and buy one on your own. Or, Christmas is just around the corner so ask for one then, you can live 3 months without an IPod.

The difference is - a class ring is a sentimental keepsake you will have for the rest of your life and is worth the extra money because it is a symbol of your academic achievements. An Ipod on the other hand is just an expensive gadget that will distract you from your homework and will have to be replaced every time it gets dropped or lost. Its like the difference between a wedding gown and the latest style of Hello Kitty purses.

No, it's not unfair. I can understand why your mom might offer to pay for a momento of your h.s. years (I assume it's a h.s. class ring) but not for something like an Ipod...
You may very well have the ring when your own daughter graduates from high school, the Ipod you're likely to not have in 30 years.
Why exactly can you not get a job?? You say you're not allowed. Who is not allowing you to work for a living.?

I know it seems unfair, but your mom is doing the best she can for you. Really.
Is there a way you could earn the money to buy a new one. Perhaps she can meet you half way?
Does it have to be an iPod or will another brand of MP3 do?
There are times when $150 can be a lot of money.

Darlin', if your mom is a single parent, and even if you are the only child, $200 a month for support is nothing when you are trying to raise a healthy child by yourself. I know from experience. My daughter worked for braces, a car AND senior pictures because her father wouldn't help. Get a job and pay for your own iPod. You'll appreciate it so much more.

Trust me, class rings are more important than ipods.
I come from a very poor family as well, and my mom bought my class ring for me. I thought it was silly, but went along with it.
But... my fiance has been wearing it on his necklace ever since. Its been about 4 years now. It means a lot to him, which in turn means a lot to me. And when I am older, I would love to give my daughter my old class ring. :D
Just because the ring is worthless to you now, it doesn't mean you won't be happy you got it when you are a little older.
Save for an iPod for yourself. If you are old enough for class rings, you are old enough to get a job.
