Well, when dealing with multiplication and division, it's much easier to deal with the improper fractions; so convert them before you proceed to multiply or divide.
A. 4 1/2 / 6 = 9/2 * 1/6 = 9/12 = 3/4
D. 8 2/5 * 1 5/7 = 42/5 * 12/7 = 504/35 = 72/5 = 14 2/5
For addition and subtraction, you need common denominators. If the denominators share no common factors (i.e. 12 and 8 are both divisible by 4), multiply them.
B. 18 1/5 - 12 2/3 = 18 3/15 - 12 10/15 = 7 8/15
C. 13 7/8 + 6 1/3 = 13 21/24 + 6 8/24 = 20 5/24

The first step, is to convert any mixed fractions into top heavy fractions...
I approach this by multiplying the big number, by the bottom of the fration, and then adding the top of the fraction, and place it over the bottom number of the fraction.
i.e. a b/c = [(a*c)+b]/b
so 4 1/2 = [(4*2)+1]/2 = 9/2
remember, dividing fractions is the same as multiplying by the recipricol of the fraction (recipricol of x = 1/x or of a/b = b/a).
so 4 1/2 divided by 6 = 9 / 2 times 1/6
when multiplying fractions multiply the top numbers together, and multiply the bottom numbers together i,e
a/b times c/d = (a * c) / (b * d)
so 9/2 times 1/6 = 9/12
when adding or subtracting, you must make sure the denominator (the bottom number) of the two fractions are the same. you can do this by multiplying the fraction by 1 (i.e. by 2/2 or by 4/4) and then you just add/subtract the top number
18 1/5 - 12/ 2/3 = 91/5 - 38/3 = 91/5 * 3/3 - 38/3 * 5/5 =
= 273/15 - 210/15 = 63/15 = 4 3/15
You should be able to tackle the others by yourself now!

Write the first one as
(9/2)*(1/6)
= 9/12
= 3/4.
The rest are the same (sort of).
I guess when you add or subtract, you should make sure the denominators are the same:
18 1/5 - 12 2/3 =
6 + (1/5 - 2/3) =
6 + (3/15 - 10/15) =
6 - 7/15 =
5 8/15.

I find it easiest to convert to a fractions lets start
1) convert 4 1/2 is 9/2 / 6
Switch to multiplication by switching 6 to 1/6
so 9/2 * 1/6 or 9/12
2) Again covert to fraction
91/5 - 38/3 Denominators need to be the same so get the least come denominator which is 15
so you get 273/15 - 190/15 which is 83/15 or 5 8/15
3) Covert to fraction 111/8 + 19/3 Get least common denominator which is 24. Now you get 333/24 + 152/24
That will equal 485/24 or 20 5/24
4) Covert to fraction 42/5*12/7 or 504/35 or 14 14/35 or lowest term is 14 2/5
Hope that helps

convert the fractions into decimals and then just divide regularly. Or turn 4 1/2 into the improper fraction 9/2 and divide by 6/1 (this is the first problem). To divide that convert 6/1 to the reciprocal , 1/6. Then you can multiply 9/2 * 1/6. The answer is 3/4. Do the same for the rest of the problems. Hope I helped.

Simplify

Here's one way to do 4 1/2 divided by 6.
And 4 is the same as 8/2
So 4 1/2 is the same as 8/2 + 1/2
= 9/2
9/2 divided by 6 = 9 / 12 = (3x3) / (3x4)
= 3/4

ill do the first one for you.
4 1/2 is actually 9/2 (nine halves).
(9/2)/6 = 9/(2*6) = 9/12.
divide by 3 and you get: 3/4
