well, it would answer a few questions, as to why they left them on their own, thinking that they would sleep through, I can't imagine them being that daft to give her an overdose as its their profession, unless............

Well... they are both doctors. As such they have access to any drug including sedatives. I grew up in a family with a doctor father. There was medication everywhere around the house (locked away in cabinets, I must add). I think that in the case of the McCanns they got careless. Little girl was crying, they wanted to go out yielded to temptation and sedated her. They came back from dining out many hours later and found their Madeleine DEAD on the floor. Partially sedated, the kid woke up, dizzy, fell, bled to death. I think this is what likely happened. Parents PANICKED !!
We are all forgetting something so important. The actions and decisions of the Portuguese police in the last 48 hours are 100% a result of the forensic test results provided by Birmingham. Portugal is not a third world country or a banana republic. Let's have some trust in them and their police. Media hysteria is again at work with thing like "PORTUGAL HAVE THIRD WORLD POLICE TACTICS" and "..THEY ARE TRYING TO FRAME THE MCCANNS..." Come on.. Are you surprise their Police are not saying anything and are refusing to feed press hysteria ? They did not invite that crime to be committed in their Portugal. Let them do their job. I just have this strong feeling that that their PJ-GNR police will solve the case. Just given them time and SPACE, for God's sake. They are, like us, a western country albeit with a slightly different but accepted as a fair legal system.
Finally don't forget that Kate's Portuguese lawyer advised her that ACCORDING TO EVIDENCE SHE MIGHT VERY WELL BE CHARGED !!!! Just because something is hard to believe it does not mean it is isn't true.

Allegedly, Maddie was given something to help her sleep. I believe it was one of the McCann Aunts that mentioned Piriton medicine (an antihistamine) in the early days of this case, but I can't remember where I read it.

As I have said before, my daughter never slept from the age of two and a half, until she was 8. We had to get medicine from the GP to actually knock her out in the end. I, therefore, cannot point fingers regarding that. What I cannot understand is why, IF she was drugged in some way, they would leave her alone. I mean, leaving three under threes is moronic anyway, but if one or more of them were sedated???? My God, that's just stupid. We would have NEVER left our kids alone under ANY circumstances anyway, but even if we had been that irresponsible, we would never have left them unattended while one of them was drugged. That's beyond idiotic.

I still have my suspicions, that IF they sedated Madeleine, she got up to go to the loo or find Mum and Dad and due to the medication "slowing her down", she fell and hit her head or something like that.

There is no evidence that they were using sedatives. A needleless syringe was found, but my daughter uses a syringe to administer medicine to her 2 year old. No one has mentioned sedatives since, and if they were found to be using sedatives it would be commonplace by now, and a vital clue in the case.

Good question. To keep them sedated so they could go and have a good time.
Why did they leave the kids on their own in the first place?
Why did they leave the door to the apartment open?
Good respectable people!? No, very irresponsible people.
If it was a single parent and left their children all hell would have broken loose and the finger would have been pointed straight away.
And no I'm not a single parent!

I agree with Shy girl, Ysanne and Retox.
They had been made to return to the room on a previous evening because the children were shouting and crying. So by drugging the children their problems were solved

Because its cheaper than a babysitter.
Sedated children aren't difficult to mind, so they could head to the local restaurant, bar whatever. That alone IS a naive and negligent thing to do.

And that is not speculating on anything else that might have happened cos I like everyone else dont know.

I heard that they use sedatives to get their kids to go to sleep. They could have accidentally given Maddy an overdose and it killed her. I hope im wrong on that one.

Only the McCanns know!

My theory -
They wanted to just go out for a meal, without the hassle of kids.
They thought some sedatives would do no harm - just put them to sleep.
They then gave Maddie an accidental overdose and then they had to hide the body.

To tell the truth..
I haven't a clue.
Really - no clue.
I can't see them doing it, but obviously it's possible..

In hospital kids aren't given pre meds before ops because children have no concept of sedation. They are doctors and would know that. Before we all speculate lets get the facts, the drug (if there were any) names and find out. So to answer your question, to help themselves sleep. ?
