It's the number you get by dividing your original number into 1. For example, the reciprocal of 5 is 1/5, the reciprocal of 1.5 is 2/3 and so on.
If a number is multiplied by its reciprocal, the product is always 1.

the reciprocal of a number is also know as the multiplicative inverse of the number... the reciprocal of 3 is 1/3... while the reciprocal of 8/5 is 5/8
as you can see..to get the reciprocal... you can simply reverse the numerator and denominator.. or divide 1 with that number

Basically, it's flipping a fraction over.
The reciprocal of 57/34 is 34/57.
The reciprocal of 5 is 1/5
The reciprocal of x/y is y/x.
The reciprocal of (x^4 - 3x + 3)/(x^2 - 2) is (x^2 - 2)/(x^4 - 3x + 3).
A good thing to note is that when you multiply anything nonzero by its reciprocal, you get 1.
