Dress like the character, without a doubt. Some might say it isn't professional, but in professional auditions, you HAVE to dress the part. In the professional world, producers and casting agents are stupid--if they can't immediately picture you in the part by looking at you, they won't be able to at all. In other words, unless you walk into an audition for a nurse wearing a white dress and funny hat, you won't get the part.
Even if that isn't true in your case, and even though it's high school, it should still work to your advantage. The director will already be seeing you AS that part...they'll already be able to see you IN that part. It'll definitely help you, and if you get funny looks, just see the looks on people's faces when they see you got the part!

I think a long skirt would be appropriate with a peasant blouse, it is not the authentic costume, but gives a sense of it. What is most important in auditioning for Meg is to have a great deal of energy and sparkle. Have fun, break a leg!

Don't dress like the character. Do your hair like the character. Dress nicely but not over the top. I like the ballet flat idea but I think you should find a good balance between dressing like the character and dressing like yourself in formal clothes. Wear a modern day normal plad skirt and nice shirt.
Break a leg! I hope you get the part! :)

Looking professional and presentable is definitely a good thing but you don't need to over do it.
Try to be casual enough to be taken seriously but not so casual that you look like you just rolled out of bed. They'll like to see you for you and not the over-glammed up version.
Also, directors are great at using their imaginations. To dress up in a "costume"-esque ensemble may come off as tacky. Its your acting/singing that will get you cast, not your outfit.
Go as yourself and good luck :)

What I do for auditions is for the first audition I dress professionally. Then, if I get a call back, I dress more like the part.

Dress Casually instead, to dress as the part would be going a little overboard when it comes to that. To dress in the "Professianol Look" even though it's sounds pretty cute you might find it a little hard to move in. Replace it by wearing a cute graphic print tee and bermuda shorts with some tennis shoes.

properly are you universal w/ the play? if so then placed on something like the guy your testing for could placed on. in case you dont then purely placed on a dress thes effortless to flow in. i could say somthing thats extra form installation interior the precise yet lose on the backside. sturdy success! and remember that the administrators continually will remember somebody in a dress or somebody who doesnt look like each and every the persons testing...
