Any lawyer needs money to do his job from somewhere, but most will talk with you the first time without charging you.

All criminal lawyers want their money up front, because they know you can't pay if you go to jail. tell the judge that you can't afford a lawyer and have him appoint you a public defender.

Ask the judge to appoint a public defender. It's about the only way a lawyer will take a case without money, unless you have collateral (ie, a house, etc...) to put up.

Not likely to find one anywhere. They like their money in the pocket before putting in hours of work and paying staff for paperwork.
