unattended in a vehicle?

From research I've collected thus far, punishment varies according to socio-ecnomic-marital status, race, and gender.

These parents should get treated the same as any other criminal.
What about the background/family life of these individuals? This appears to be the (latest trend), easiest way to murder a child and call an accident.
Has anyone found backward facing carseats, lack of bonding and/or actual mental disorder (in adult responsible) in any of the deaths?(proven)
Respectful opionions please.

I agree 100%, people are also aware when animals are left unattended in vehicles.

Am even more distraught after hearing the following a few minutes ago:

Recent incident in Ohio. According to news reports, "the woman had been reminded of the child being left unattended in the car on several occasions this past week."

As a parent, it is hard for me to understand how a person could "forget" their child in the car. On the other hand, with the stresses and fast paced life styles that we all lead, in certain circumstances, you can SORTA understand how it could happen. I once heard of an incident where the mother who usually took the baby to daycare was sick, so the Dad was to take the baby instead. He was not used to doing this. The baby was in a rear facing child safety seat and fell asleep during the drive, so he was quiet. The Dad was kind of on "auto pilot" driving to work--like we all are everyday--and drove straight to work like he always does. Hopped out of the car and went on in to work and forgot about the baby until it suddenly dawned on him several hours later--by then it was too late. Very hot time of year and young baby. The child did not survive. I can sort of see how this could happen. No criminal punishment could ever be worse than the punishment the Dad would heap upon himself. I think it would be horrible to be that Dad. Before I judge, I will say "but for the Grace of God".......

YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!

I don't see how a parent can "forget" their child, especially when it is hotter than heck outside. Don't they worry about the child? Don't they worry about someone taking their child? I have been in some stressful moments running errands, in triple digit temps, but never thought once about leaving my sleeping child in a car ALONE in any circumstance.

I have not done official research, but there is clearly not enough being done to show that this is NEGLECT and a serious crime against children. EDIT: And now with the McCanns' back in the news.....while I agree there is NOT enough evidence at this point (very weak and circumstancial until bona fide) they should be held liable at some level because they didn't even have a monitor. Just checking in from time to time one to two blocks away is not enough with toddlers/preschoolers or most any other child!

The woman that left her 2yr old in the car happened where I live in Cincinnati. The prosecutor won't press charges but in two similar incidents the parents were charged and convicted. There are people trying to pass a new law called Cecilia's Law that will not let this kind of thing happen again without justice for the child.

I think Oregon law considers this manslaughter, and usually results in 2-5 years in prison, depending on the circumstances. It is a crime in Oregon to even criminally endanger a youth - i.e. to place or leave a youth where a reasonable person would believe (s)he were at significant risk of harm. Since DHS investigates these instances, gender definately plays a role.
Socio-economic status will always play a role in everything for reasons you should be able to derive.

I'm a social worker in child protection and we get so many calls about parents leaving children in the car!!! It's so dangerous!!! They recently changed the laws where I live and if a child dies as a result of child abuse it is considered homicide and that person faces first degree murder charges.

I feel that leaving a child in a car while unattended is child abuse and should have the protection afforded to them legally.

yes i think anyone who leaves a child in a car, and that child dies should get the max jail time. i belive mental conditions should be taken into consideration and delt with acordingly. but i do not beilive in death penalty i beilive god should say when people die not us. i dont see how anyone can accidently leave their baby in the car, i mean im talking to my child the whole way to where ever we are going i know when hes in the car.

they should be given life- no parole. This is one of the most heinous and avoidable crimes. It's absolutley disgusting and sickening hhow some parents, blessed with a beautiful child, could have so little regard for the gift they were given.

yes!.... I think the women in Ohio should have to meet the same fate as the child did. put her in a hot car and let her slowly cook to her death.
