One of our local VFW posts adopted a platoon so I'm helping them raise money and I've donated stuff to send to the platoon plus I'm going to write a letter because now the VFW is also asking for letters. I consider myself lucky in that I don't have any relatives stuck over there and I support the troops even if I do think their "supreme commander" is an idiot. How about you? Have someone over there? Or donating to try to keep their spirits up?

A colleague at work has a family member in a Marine unit.

That unit worked with people at home, and our company on a toy drive for kids in and around where they patrol.

We sent soccer balls, school supplies, and tons of toys for the Marines to give out to promote goodwill.

Now that wasn't for the Marines themselves specifically, but most seemed to think that it helped them feel better to see a few smiles.

We are going to gear up for another big drive.

I too don't agree with the invasion, but our troops are doing a lot of great work that goes unnoticed every day.

I am just tired of seeing flag-draped coffins coming home. I have to think we could have made better use of 4000+ American men and women, and $20 billion a month. It breaks my heart to see good people lost like that.

Until my son went in, we adopted a soldier (sort of). We had a friend who died and they had a son in the Army. He took care of all the legal stuff with my wife's help then went back to Iraq. We thought it would be a good idea to treat him as one of our own for awhile, so we send letters, care packages, news, and stuff, then our friends heard of this and asked him if there were other guys without family who would like a surrogate Dad and mom. Next thing we know it has expanded to one of our friends gets requests from soldiers and they send a personality profile and then they give a personality profile to prospective surrogate parents. She puts them in touch and things snow ball from there. We have lost contact with our adopted soldier, but, we have two more. There are rules like no money is allowed to be requested or given, just letters news and cookies or the like. It's fun! We have one coming for Thanksgiving!

I pray for them. That's possibly the most important thing.

I donate money to the hospitals for injured soldiers.
Those sort of things.
