Do you know that your lawn mower needs yearly maintenance? Changing the air filter is one of the things you do (some of them you can remove and wash and put back on but I can't see yours so...sorrry). Also changing the spark plug is a good idea and cheap. I also change the oil at the beginning of the mowing season. If you can't do it your self (I;m a 54yr old woman and do all of mine) take it to a local small engine repair shop (they are everywhere in small and large towns) and pay them to do a "get ready" job and then get online and learn how to do these things yourself and save $100 every year.
If you take good care of your things, they will take good care of you.
I have one push mower I have had 18 yrs just because it gets maint. every year plus I clean it (underneath, where the grass collects and hardens) after each mowing and it never fails me!

How old is the airfilter? If you dont know- then change it- its due. Maximum life is like 2-3 years tops for an airfilter - depending on how dusty conditions are-
I agree with the maintence aspect - they need to be serviced at least a couple times a year- which means oil changes - spark plug change, fuel filter, blade sharpening, general cleaning.

Don't forget the gas, it needs fuel stabilizer or it will stop working after a couple of weeks.
Drain the gas, put fresh gas in it and change your air filter.
No, this isn't a joke.
