Money has always remained a means to an end. In a Satyuga (the golden age)... money always remains a means to an end! In the present Kali Yuga (the metal age)... the means have become an end in itself! Instead of worshiping God... people have started worshiping money as means to everything!
The motto... "Eat, drink and be merry" applies to all such people for whom money is an end in itself! For men of wisdom money still remains a means to an end! For seekers on the spiritual path... money is necessary in this mortal ephemeral world but not at the cost of morality and ethics.
In present times for the sake of money people commit even heinous crimes. It is because of such people money becomes food for evil! Those who understand after the death of the body... nothing materialistic passes to the next manifestation... remain happy! What of those who amass fortunes much beyond requirements of present life... the existing manifestation!
Such people truly do not enjoy life. They simply indulge in physical riches of life that is absolutely temporal! When people indulge in lavish living... they desire more and more. Practically there is no end to their desires. Finally they fall into a vicious circle of slavish animal indulgence! More on Desires and Life - http://www.godrealized.org/truce_with_my_inner_self.html

I believe the saying is "Money is the ROOT of all evil". Of course, money is important in my life. Without it, my family would be living under a bridge.

i dont think money is the root or the food of all evil, though it plays a role, the love of money, in some evil
money is a thing, it is all in what you do with it, what you will do for it, the importance you give it and what it can buy in your life
most "things" can be used in a positive or negative way,

The quotation says " The love of money is the root of all evil"
Money is a tool like any other it's what we as humans do with it that's the problem.

The Bible tells us that the "love of money is the ROOT of all evil", not money itself. 1 Tim. 6:10 What is important is what we do with it and who benefits from money. How do we spend it? To help others, tithe, or solely to satisfy our desires.

its not money, but "The love of money is the root of all evil". Its very important, but I think when u look at it like its a demigod instead of a useful neccesity. Then u will reap all the negative benefits that will come with it

It is funny that the seven posters above all got it wrong. The saying is, "The LACK of money is the root of all evil." I think it is George Bernard Shaw. But I'm not going to look it up for you.
Money is work done. When one "spends" money, they are being paid for work they have done (to "earn" the money) with goods or services.

Money is never a problem from its own side - it is our relation to money (and other things) that makes the problem, usually in forms like craving, discontentment, envy, and so on.
If you can get rid of these emotions you don't have to get rid of the money itself (money can actually be quite useful if you want a full stomach and a roof over your head ...) - but it ain't easy!

No.
Money is the difference between death and having a few days of antibiotics to treat a deadly infection.
Money is the the difference between starvation and a child eating a healthy diet to develop in to a strong adult.
Money is important. It's mass accumulation, hording and profiteering -- greed -- is not.

That saying is incorrect. "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil" Money by itself does nothing. It's greed that causes all of the problems associated with money.
