Neither my husband or I smoke, but his friend Nick does. When Nick borrowed the truck to move his things he smoked in the truck. Was that rude of him, or am I being silly? I hate the smell of cigarettes. If it were my vehicle (it's my husband's) I would be upset. Am I wrong to think that people shouldn't smoke in somebody else's vehicle when they borrow it? When the vehicle owner is not a smoker.

It is extremely rude to smoke in someone's car. If someone smoked in my car after I let them borrow it I would definately say something. There are some things in life that you just don't do and smoking in someone elses car is one of them.

Yes that was rude on Nick's part. He should have at least asked if you guys minded. I don't smoke and I hate the smell and makes my eyes water. If I were you I would just tell him that you didn't appreciate him smoking in your vehicle. I had the same problem years back and were still friends to this day. If your true friends you tell them how you feel and they still talk to you after. Nobody is going to agree all the time. Best of luck to you.

I wouldn't call it outright rude, but it's inconsiderate and thoughtless. Smokers should NOT smoke in a non-smoking vehicle. You can't get the smell out.

Some smokers are so addicted that they light up without even thinking about it. They also can't smell the smoke (and that disgusting odor that lingers afterward) because their sense of smell has gone numb from smoking so long.

You might want to put a big "no smoking" sign inside your car on the dashboard.

It is incredible that he did not ask. I am a smoker and I think its common courtesy to ask before smoking in another person's vehicle.

If there are burns or smoke stains it could damage the resale value of the car.

If your husband doesn't have a problem with it then it would be silly for you to make a huge fuss, but still unpleasant. Try Ozium, its available at most Wal-Mart and Auto-Zones, but make sure to follow the directions.

Yes, it is rude. He should refrain from smoking in the vehicle of a non-smoker. If he does smoke in the vehicle, he should have the upholstery professionally cleaned before returning the vehicle.

You are right on

It is simply lack of respect & common sense on the smokers part. How do they know you or your husband/kids don't suffer from asthma. Sometimes smokers believe they have the right to infringe on others. They arent allowed to smoke in restaurants anymore would they feel it's ok to light up in your kitchen.
Smokers are now the minority!!!
Don't feel bad at all..& no you are not being unreasonable.

I'm a smoker and I DO NOT SMOKE IN MY CAR. If someone smoked in my car they would have to have it professionally cleaned inside and out. They would never borrow anything of mine again.

It was kinda rude. However, when loaning your car to someone you know smokes, it's OK to ask them not to smoke in it. You could say you have allergies and it really flares up when that happens. If he HAS to smoke, he can either stop and step outside to do so, or he can make a special effort to clean the interior before returning it.

Of course it's rude unless you tell the person it's ok to smoke but on the other hand he might have done it cause he's just used to smoke in his own car, without thinking? Nevertheless..rude

have a good day

In that case you could have said to your friend that you would appreciate if he did not smoke into your vehicle since you nor your husband due.
Perhaps your friend didn't think nothing of it because he smokes in his. So next time just tell him !
