Everybody overlooked something else... There is saltwater and freshwater, under each of those, there is temperate and tropical. This means that there are tropical marine and temperate marine fish. Clownfish are tropical marine fish, so, yes, you could keep them in a tropical tank, assuming it is also a marine (saltwater) tank. Email me if you have any questions.

Yeah soop is right tropical is refering to climate not specific gravity of the water. So i cant think of a marine clownfish that doesnt live in tropical waters. However a marine clownfish like a percula clown or maroon clown can not live in freshwater. Clown knife's and clown loaches are fresh water. All of the species i just named need warm tropical water.

No!Clown fish are salt water fish and would die in a tropical tank.Salt water tanks are harder to keep than tropical and are only for more experienced fish keepers,if you are just starting out with fish try a community tropical tank for a few years before you venture into salt water fish.Here is some information on all the work that is involved in the care of clown fish:

SALT!
