Make sure your concrete is thick enough for your use. For example cars on a driveway would require more. The inclusion of wire mesh will greatly increase the strength of the concrete. You will want to provide access for the concrete trucks that don't include going over a septic system. It can be a bit tricky finishing off a concrete surface. You can't finish it, if it is too wet. and if you have sun and wind, it can set quite rapidly, and if you have a large area, and too few hands it can be difficult to finish before it sets. You also have problems if it rains. I recommend including a mason in on your project.

Level the area, install the forms (2x4, 2x6 etc) and make sure to use enough stakes to hold them in place. Add sand and tamp it down. You will need a long straight board or tool to level out (screed) the concrete as you pour it. Use an edging tool to round over the edges so you won't have edges breaking off later. You will also need other tools for smoothing the finish. You can probably rent these rather than buying.
