You can try to scan the computer via online scanner or by updating the existing scanner on the computer.. .
However, alot of the nastier viruses out there will not allow you to update your anti-virus and will in some cases disable it in the first place.
There are some viruses called polymorphic that will change their signature so that the anti-virus won't know what to look for.
If the computer is completed infected and overrun with viruses and other nasties... the best thing you can do is backup the files to cd, floppy, usb, or an external harddrive and reformat the computer and reinstall..
When I say backup your files.. I mean, your important documents usually in the my documents folder... your mp3s, your pictures... your website shortcuts (favorites folder), your email if not webmail and you're using something like Outlook (your .pst and address book .wab).. etc... don't bother trying to copy programs as you'll need your installation disks.
And before you replace them to the new clean system make sure you scan them!!!
Make a list of all your installed programs so you can locate their installation disks (if you don't have an emergency binder already you should create one).
Double check you have checked all locations possible that might contain important files... and then do the deed.
This is the pain in the @$$cii way of doing it but it is the safest way if you are really overrun.
format, reinstall windows, then install anti-virus/firewall, update anti-virus/firewall, update windows with all security patches... then consider reinstalling your programs and copying over files (AFTER you scan them!!).
Good luck.

Hello
You could use a online scanner panda is one of them, or you can install one AVG,there are both free. I forget the link to panda you can google it and find it there, for AVG just go to www.download.com and type in AVG and download it.Which one you try after you install it run a full scan and take out what virus it finds. Also after you do this you will want to scan for spyware. Some good scanners are ad-aware and spybot once again you can get these at download.com. gl

Well, there are many anti-viruses, but AVG would do the job quite nicely, install it then get some updates:
http://free.grisoft.com
But there are other anti-viruses, but you may have to pay, such as Norton Anti-virus, which sends out heaps of updates, though you have to pay for updates every year and the program too. Speaking in which, I reckon AVG should do the job.
