Ok, it's a measurement, but of what exactly? We take time for granted as if it is something, yet is not an object, an energy or even a force like gravity. Newton thought it was fixed, Einstein found it relative, Quantums puts it on LSD and Strings make it whatever you want it to be. From 2 year olds holding up 2 fingers to theoretical physists we all acknowledge time. Yet, think about it: What exactly is TIME?

It is one of the fundamental dimensions of space-time or of matter. Matter cannot exist if it does not occupy space or time.
Time as we know it is the difference between events
Time and few other fundamentals cannot be explained in more simpler terms.

ya man. time is really mysterious. Newton did everything keeping the time frame fixed. This idea is in vain with einstines analysis.
However, even if u think about as assuming that what u are thinking is not relative to these concepts (thinking is also u do not know what it is ) , u get mad. (think up to universe borders that we know and come down to electrons and then think where we fit in this and what we r doing - it is really crazy - )
So time is just a concept. It describes changes. If there is no change there can be no time!!! Correct / but again to think all these we are assuming that what we do as thinking is absolute!! Again it is a question
OK without assuming that we cannot go on. so we assume it and go on .
Thereby science has identified certain concepts such as length, mass , time ...etc
Do u believe that these concepts are also just a concepts. We can only do comparing them with our standard models or measurements ( such as the kg model in france )
So for me not only time other basic concepts are also some thoughts.
I believe that absolute truth is something that u never get as once u start thinking u have assumed that what u are doing is something outside the process ( which is not so ) . What we can do is what the science is doing.
Conclusion :
if u want to observe something u must be an outsider.
Being a part of the process thinking, imagineering sources of the process is not going to work!!!!!
This is not a negative comment / time may be too close to our thinking limits ( I said may only because it is also part of our thinking )

Time is a difficult concept to grasp. First of all you can drop the idea of clocks being important to time, they were invented by man to make it easier for him to navigate and organize his day. Time is an interval between events, events occur because of motion, if there is no motion within a body, a black hole , for example, no time exists there, because the matter is so densely packed there is no room for motion. The only other case where time does not exist is at the speed of light. Time is also a dimension and it can't be separated from space, If you pinpoint a body in space you must also state the time it was pinpointed because at any other time that body would be in a different place. Time can't be travelled through and the time is always, now. The past can be recorded but never revisited and the future unfolds as more events take place. I hope this has been of some help to you.

It is one of four parametric degrees of freedom (aka "dimensions") shared by all particles. It is unique among these degrees of freedom in having a bound at one end. That is, there is an minimum value below which it cannot be defined (aka the time of the big bang). The low entropy of the universe at that time is responsible for time being perceived as qualitatively different from the other (spatial) degrees of freedom.

Time is the progression of existence. Time is not a substance or a dimension, except in that it can be measured. Nothing would happen without time. The universe would be little more than a still life photograph.
